DRIVING & RENTAL INFORMATION

Important answers for Thailand.

The signed rental agreement governs each rental. Ask us before driving if anything is unclear.

What driving licence and International Driving Permit do I need?

Every driver must present their original, valid, full driving licence issued in their own country. Foreign visitors must also present a valid International Driving Permit (IDP) covering the correct vehicle class, together with the original domestic licence and passport. An IDP is not a standalone licence. A car-only licence or IDP does not permit you to ride a scooter or motorcycle. Without the correct original documents, we cannot hand over the vehicle and insurance may not apply. Holders of a valid Thai licence may use that licence.

Does my licence need to cover the vehicle I rent?

Yes. Your domestic licence and IDP must both cover the category you will drive. For scooters and motorcycles, the IDP must show the appropriate motorcycle endorsement or class. A normal car licence is not enough for a scooter.

What age must the main renter be?

The main renter and every additional driver must be at least 21 and no older than 65 on the pickup date. Every driver must also meet the licence and document requirements.

Are additional drivers charged extra?

No. There is no additional-driver fee. However, every driver must be named on the rental agreement before driving and must present the same required original licence, IDP and identification documents at handover. An unregistered driver may invalidate insurance coverage.

Is mileage unlimited, and where may I take the vehicle?

There is no kilometre limit. Standard use is restricted to Phuket, Krabi, Phang Nga and Surat Thani provinces. Travel outside these provinces must be reported to us and approved in writing before departure, and an additional charge applies. Unreported travel outside the permitted area will incur a penalty and is not covered by insurance.

What Thailand road rules should visitors remember?

Drive on the left and overtake on the right. Follow posted speed limits, wear seat belts in cars and an approved helmet on scooters, and never drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The renter remains responsible for following all Thai traffic laws and local regulations.

When can insurance or damage protection become invalid?

Coverage depends on following the signed rental agreement. It may not apply when the driver is unlicensed or not named on the agreement; drives outside the permitted provinces without prior approval; fails to report an accident or damage promptly; drives dangerously, off normal roads or through flooded areas; uses the wrong fuel; or drives under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

What should I do after an accident, theft or breakdown?

Stop safely, do not leave the scene when an accident has occurred, and contact Rentacar Phuket immediately on +66 92 970 2876. For an accident, injury or theft, also contact the police or emergency services as appropriate. Do not admit liability, arrange repairs or move a badly damaged vehicle unless instructed by police, emergency services or our staff. Prompt reporting is required for insurance assistance.

Should I inspect the vehicle at handover?

Yes. Inspect the body, wheels, glass, interior, equipment and fuel level with our staff. Make sure every existing mark is recorded on the handover condition report and take your own dated photos or video before leaving and again when returning the vehicle.

What is the fuel policy?

The fuel level and correct fuel type are recorded at handover. Return the vehicle with the same fuel level unless your signed agreement states otherwise. Ask our staff before refuelling if you are unsure which fuel to use; damage caused by incorrect fuel is not covered.

Who pays traffic fines, tolls and parking charges?

The renter is responsible for all traffic fines, tolls, parking charges, wheel clamps, towing costs and related administration costs arising during the rental, including notices received after the vehicle has been returned.

Can I extend the rental or return late?

Contact us and receive approval before the agreed return date and time. Extensions depend on availability and must be recorded so the rental agreement and insurance period remain current. Keeping the vehicle without approval may result in extra charges and loss of insurance coverage.

When is my booking confirmed?

Search your dates, choose an available category and review the rental price, refundable deposit and any pickup or return charge. Your reservation is confirmed after full prepayment is received and a booking reference is issued.

Am I reserving an exact vehicle?

You reserve a category, such as Toyota Ativ 1.2 or similar, Honda Click or Yamaha Filano or similar. The actual available model in that category is allocated at handover.

Can pickup and return locations be different?

Yes. Select Different drop-off location in the booking form. Pickup and return charges are one-way, so each selected location is priced separately.

How much is delivery?

Rawai is free. Chalong, Kata or Karon is ฿400; Phuket Town or Kathu is ฿500; Patong, Kamala or Bangtao is ฿600; Airport or Mai Khao is ฿800. Each amount is a one-way charge.

What payment methods do you accept?

Cash prepayment at our Rawai pickup point is currently active. Thai QR and cryptocurrency payments are being verified and are not offered until they are formally activated. Full rental payment is required before confirmation.

How much is the refundable deposit?

The refundable security deposit is ฿5,000 for every car and scooter rental. It is shown separately from the rental price before confirmation and is subject to the return inspection and any amounts due under the signed rental agreement.

Do I upload documents online?

No. Our staff checks the required original documents at handover. No document upload is required on the website.

What are the pickup point hours?

The Rawai pickup point is open every day from 09:00 until 18:00.

What car extras are available?

Child seats cost ฿100 per day for rentals of three days or fewer, and ฿50 per day for rentals of four days or more.

What scooter extras are available?

Mobile phone holders cost ฿50 per day and premium helmets cost ฿100 per day.

What is the cancellation policy?

Cancel at least 168 hours (7 full days) before the scheduled pickup time to receive a refund of 70% of the prepaid rental amount. Cancellations made less than 168 hours before pickup, no-shows and unused time after an early return are non-refundable.

How do I change or cancel a reservation?

Use Reservations → View/Modify/Cancel a Reservation, or contact us on WhatsApp using +66 92 970 2876. A change is subject to availability and the rate applying to the revised dates.

Where is the Rawai pickup point?
